Coconut Oil For Dogs
ShorTee and Truper
These are my two beauties that I am constantly cooking fresh baked organic treats for because of their allergies to anything that is not organic. I want to tell you my story and the impact Coconut Oil has on their life as well as mine.
Most nights they are up in the middle of the night sneezing and shaking. That noise wakes me up out of a deep sleep. Now I do give them Coconut Oil with their breakfast and they were fine most of the day besides the occasional sneeze or two in the middle of the night. As of late, both have been up most nights sneezing and shaking. After about a week or so, I got up and remembered the oil I gave them at night. I gave both of them a 1/2 teaspoon and sent them on their way and went back to bed. In less than 5 minutes, they were back to sleep, snoring and not sneezing.
Since that night, I have increased their dosage to 3/4 teaspoon at breakfast, 1/2 teaspoon with dinner and right before bed another 1/2 teaspoon. We are now back to a full night sleep. Since increasing their dosage some other things I have noticed is they do not lick their paws as much as before, scratch their ears and less skin dryness.
Coconut oil is not only good for dogs but it is good for humans too. Read for yourself!
I use Nutiva or Vitacost brand. Both work great for my two loves. I would highly recommend adding this to your dogs meals and even using a small amount to their skin after a bath.

I thought I would post a recall on a frozen yogurt dog treat by Yoghund. The flavor that is being recalled is their Banana and Peanut Butter yogurt treat.
Pet treat recalls are the main reason I chose to make organic treats for my two babies. Try my version of this ice treat. You will not have to worry about product recalls.
Sweet Potato and Dogs
Sweet Potato dog treats are great for dogs to eat anytime as ice pops or chews. My dogs love these. I have been giving them sweet potato chews since they were puppies. I have a fantastic recipe for Sweet Potato Ice Pops in my Gourmet Dog Ice Pops Recipe Cookbook and a great Pumpkin Ice Pop Treat.
Since relocating to a different state, I am unable to locate the Organic Sweet Potato Chews that I would give to my dogs on occasion. I love sweet potatoes but I hate to cut them. If you have never tried, be extremely careful because they are a very hard potato to cut, especially lengthwise.
Sweet potatoes are a great antioxidant, properties to assist the aid in preventing cancer, provides vitamins A, C and B3 and a great source of dietary fiber.
Sweet Potato Chews
I am only using 1 fairly long organic yam. You can really choose a sweet potato or yam. Both will have the same nutritional benefits. You will also need a very sharp knife. I tried to slice the yam lengthwise down the center to make two halves. That did not work so well. My advice is to slice the potato the best way you can. Keep slices no smaller than 1/4 in thickness. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the slices on the paper. Total cooking time will be 4 hours. Half way through the cooking process turn the slices over and sprinkle a little cinnamon on top. Once the cooking process is complete, place the sweet potatoes on a rack to cool. The chews should be firm on the outer portion and soft toward the center. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
